Rep. Niemerg Responds to Gov. Pritzker’s Newest Mitigation Orders for Restaurants, Bars & Student Sports

TEUTOPOLIS…State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) made the following statement today on the announcement by the Governor that restaurants in regions that are moved to Tier 1 mitigations are permitted to resume indoor service at 25% occupancy or 25 people per room (whichever is fewer). Prior to today, Tier 2 allowed for indoor dining at reduced capacity, but now the Governor decided to only allow indoor dining in Tier 1. Regions moving out of Tier 3 mitigations can resume youth and recreational sports under the Governor’s statewide policy.

“We have folks hurting all over the state and we have businesses that will never recover and that’s a sad thing. I urge the governor to open indoor dining across the state. I support the position of the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA) that this latest move is not enough and falls short of the needs of restaurants and bars and the estimated 100,000 restaurant industry workers who lost their jobs so far in Illinois.

In addition to opening up restaurants and bars, we need to allow our kids to play sports again. They have had to travel across state lines to play sports. We need common sense and practical policies that put all Illinoisans first.”
