Rep. Niemerg’s Statement on Michael Madigan’s Announced Resignation from the Illinois House After 50 Years

“Mike Madigan has been in the Illinois legislature since before I was born. His influence and impact as the Speaker of the House on our state is acknowledged by everyone on both sides of the political spectrum. From my perspective, it’s not a very good legacy. We have out-of-control pension obligations that need reform. We have a tax-and-spend tradition that needs to be changed. And we need to remember that the failed policies of Madigan and his allies have caused families and businesses to close and leave Illinois even before the coronavirus impact. I look forward to joining Democrats and Republicans and reform-minded leaders to seize this opportunity to improve our state to be more prosperous moving forward.”
