State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) voted no on the latest version of a legislative map proposed by the Democrat controlled legislature in the last few hours of the special session in Springfield. Senate Bill 927 passed along partisan lines 73 to 43.
“This newest map is a partisan, gerrymandered map that does not respect county lines or create compact, contiguous districts,” said Rep. Adam Niemerg. “This is not a fair or transparent process. It’s a cynical power grab that has systematically ignored input from the public and community groups. The Democrats have once again muscled through another map that violates the public’s trust.”
“We should be following the Illinois Constitution that says if there is not a legal map in place by June 30, that an eight-member, bi partisan commission should draw a fair map, added Rep. Niemerg. “This proposal was dropped just a few hours before a vote with no public hearings. The public needs at least thirty days to review these proposed maps and not just 20 to 30 minutes.”
