Rep. Niemerg Responds to Shooting of Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Sean Riley During a Traffic Stop Along I-64 Early This Morning

State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) learned that early this morning at approximately 5:00 a.m., Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Sean Riley responded to a motorist assist call along Interstate 64. When another officer arrived on the scene, Deputy Riley was discovered deceased at that location. According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the Deputy’s squad car was missing from the scene, but later located abandoned along I-64.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Deputy Sheriff Sean Riley’s family, friends and fellow officers at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department,” commented Rep. Adam Niemerg, who represents Wayne County in the Illinois House of Representatives. “This tragic event is still part of an on-going investigation and we are hopeful those responsible for this loss of life are brought to justice.”
