Rep. Niemerg Signs on to Lawsuit Challenging Unconstitutional Firearm Ban

TEUTOPOLIS – State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) announced Tuesday that he has signed on as a plaintiff in a lawsuit filed in White County, Illinois challenging the constitutionality of a recently signed firearm and ammunition magazine ban. Niemerg says the decision to join the lawsuit as a plaintiff is the latest step he’s taken to show his opposition to a law signed earlier this month by Governor JB Pritzker.

“The people I represent have had enough of this out of control governor, and so have I,” Niemerg said. “The recently signed firearms ban limits the rights of the law-abiding citizens that make this state and nation great. The fact is that our rights are being infringed upon by a governor and a Democratic party that couldn’t care less about Southern Illinois and its people. I am taking a stand against their abuse of power and this unconstitutional gun grab.”

Niemerg joins 1,600 other plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed in White County Circuit Court on Monday, January 23, 2023. The plaintiffs include 68 federal firearms dealers and 92 counties, and is based on violations of the Illinois Constitution contained in Illinois Public Act 102-1116.
