Rep. Niemerg Speaks to Students at Paris High School Career Fair

Two of the Paris High School students, Landon Taylor and Brody Whitaker, who showed some interest in a possible career with Illinois state government.

State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) spoke to six sessions at the Paris High School Career Fair held this morning in Edgar County. Rep. Niemerg was one of forty-two presenters open to the entire student body of approximately 560 students from freshmen to seniors.

“Career Fairs like this are important for young people to be able to ask questions and learn from people in many fields about the education needed, usual work environments, salaries, and career advancement possibilities,” added Rep. Niemerg. “Paris High School put on a great program that included presenters for trades like plumbers, carpenters, and agriculture research, to healthcare, the Illinois National Guard and the Mattoon Police Department.”

A good number of the students expressed interest in applying for the “Page-For-A-Day” program where they travel to the State Capitol in Springfield and see how the Illinois House of Representatives works. There are opportunities to experience committee hearings, take a tour of the Capitol, and observe debates on legislation.
