Niemerg Works to Stop Crashes Along I-70 Construction Zone from Effingham to Montrose

State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) continues his work with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Illinois State Police (ISP) to address the vehicle crashes that have been occurring along the stretch of Interstate 70 between Effingham and Montrose. Over the course of the last few weeks, there have been multiple accidents along this stretch involving semi tractor truck drivers.

“I appreciate the efforts of the ISP and IDOT to add signage, increase trooper patrol, and the additional barricades added along this work zone to allow access to emergency vehicles which is a positive step in helping with this safety concern from constituents,” said Rep. Niemerg. “They are considering adding rumble strips as well to draw attention to drivers to be more alert in this work zone. It is also crucial for drivers to respect the reduced speed limits and stay alert by avoiding using their cell phones while driving.”

In response to Rep. Niemerg’s request for more patrol presence, the ISP commander confirmed that ISP has conducted several details with IDOT where they have a Trooper ride in an IDOT truck, and the Trooper calls distracted driving violations out to fellow Troopers stationed in patrol cars for enforcement action. ISP continues to conduct overtime details in the work zones during the week made possible through grants to supplement their budget.
