Rep. Niemerg’s Statement on the End of Cash Bail in Illinois Beginning Monday

State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) released the following statement regarding the end of cash bail in Illinois beginning today:

“The flawed SAFE-T Act that was rushed through the legislative process and signed by Governor Pritzker, now makes Illinois the first in America to utilize the ‘no cash bail’ system. Ending cash bail and excluding a category of non-detainable offenses favors criminals and has had terrible results in the cities that have implemented this policy. We do not need this pushed onto the good people of Illinois creating more victims. I will continue to work with my local law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and court administrators to get their feedback on what they are experiencing first-hand and will fight to fix the problems with this cashless bail system.”
