Rep. Niemerg Fights Bad Idea to Mandate “Climate Change” Ideology on All Illinois Teachers

State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich), opposed legislation that will impose mandatory training of Illinois teachers on the ‘climate change’ ideology beginning in 2026-27 school year. The Course of Study Article of the School Code will require every public school to instruct the progressive climate change philosophy for every teacher in Illinois.

“This is another very bad mandate on teachers to be indoctrinated on the ‘climate change’ ideology who will then be expected to pass that ideology onto our children,” declared Rep. Adam Niemerg, a member of the Elementary & Secondary Education: School Curriculum & Policies Committee. “Teachers don’t need another mandate. They need to be allowed to teach their subject matter such as math, reading, English, and history. Only 36 percent of our students are proficient in reading and math and that should be the focus of teachers, not indoctrinating on one political ideology over another.”

House Bill 4895 will require the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to prepare multi-disciplinary instructional materials and professional training for educators for the instruction on climate change ideology. Every high school shall require this instruction in a required science class or required social studies class.

This bill now goes to the Illinois Senate for consideration and people are encouraged to contact their state senator to voice their opposition to this forced ideology instruction.
