Niemerg Recognized for 100% Support of Small Business Again

State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) has been highlighted in the recent report by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) for his 100 percent support of small business policies to come before the Illinois General Assembly during 2023-24. He earned the 100 percent recognition during his first term as well for 2021-22.

“I am honored to be recognized by the NFIB for my commitment to small business owners which is grounded in my real-life experience of growing up in a small business family here in central Illinois,” commented Niemerg. “Unfortunately, most of the legislation that comes for a vote in the General Assembly has negative impacts on small businesses with more regulations that continue to drive out our top job-creating sectors in Illinois. I will continue to be a voice of reason for the small business community in our state by opposing bad legislation and fighting for positive public policy for our business community.”

Niemerg points out that a recent report for June 2024 shows that job losses continued in the key sectors of professional and business services and in information technology. Tech changes are affecting demand for traditional areas of Illinois strength, such as retail bookkeeping and print journalism. Unemployment also increased because the size of the Illinois labor force – defined as persons of job age who are actively seeking employment – rose faster than the number of new jobs created.

The NFIB tracks the key legislative issues identified by their small business members every legislative session and then they tabulate a score for each Illinois lawmaker in the state House and state Senate. The NFIB voting record provides a critically important evaluation of a legislator’s attitude toward small business based on floor votes.

While most elected officials claim to support small businesses, the NFIB voting record gives business owners and other citizens a picture of what state representatives and state senators are up to in Springfield.
