Martinsville Receiving $600,000 OSLAD Grant for Park Improvements

State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) announced today that an Open Space Land Acquisition & Development (OSLAD) Grant has been awarded through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for the following projects in counties he represents in the General Assembly IDNR reports that more than $55.2 million in grant funding is being awarded to 100 park projects throughout Illinois to help communities acquire land and develop recreational opportunities.

“I am pleased that Martinsville will be able to add some lighting and ADA parking for safety concerns as well as bleachers, a basketball court, pickle ball courts, and a water park splash pad for more activities for the kids and residents of the community,” commented Rep. Niemerg. “These improvements will add to the quality of life and opportunities for exercise and recreation which will promote healthier lives for the people of my district.”

In addition to the grant for Martinsville, four grants totaling $2,925,000 have been awarded for projects in Champaign County (Champaign County Forest Preserve District – $1,125,000; Champaign Park District – $600,000); Coles County (City of Charleston – $600,000); and Vermilion County (City of Danville – $600,000) to develop recreational opportunities that residents and visitors from the 102nd District will be able to utilize as well.

Established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986, OSLAD is a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. Including the awards announced for this year, OSLAD has awarded $640 million for park projects throughout Illinois for 35 years.

“This partnership between IDNR and our local government is not only helpful for communities to grow, it impacts economic development activities as well,” added Niemerg. “I encourage other communities to consider applying for these grants when they become available again.”
