March 31, 2023 an EF-3 Tornado Hit Crawford County

At 10:00 PM that evening, an EF3 tornado ripped through the town and caused millions of dollars in damage with three lives lost and many more injured. Several hundred structures were toppled by the tornado including the Crawford County Airport (KRSV). Thank you to Vicki May, a board member and secretary for the Crawford County Airport Authority at the time, who provided pictures of the airport destruction that day.

“Congratulations and thank you to everyone who worked nearly three years to re-build this important asset for the community and region of our state,” said Niemerg.

Rep. Niemerg said that the program started around 1:00 p.m. with an introduction and welcome from Dave Shaw. The VFW presented colors with a Pledge of Allegiance. Mark Hermann provided some history of the Crawford County Airport (KRSV) with comments made by Jeff Olson from Hanson, Kyle Niebrugge from Wohltman, and Clayton Stambaugh from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).

Rep. Niemerg made his comments and Dave Shaw wrapped up the ceremony before everyone gathered on the east side of the facility for the ribbon-cutting.
