“I am proud of my hometown Wooden Shoes Boys Golf Team earning this accomplishment and showing that hard work and perseverance pay off,” commented Niemerg, a 2002 graduate of Teutopolis High School. “Thank you to Head Coach Mike Wilson for your eight years of commitment to our boy’s golf team.”

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes made Illinois history last weekend as the varsity golf squad became the first golf team in school history to be crowned Illinois High School Association (IHSA) 1A State Champions by defeating seven other squads. The Shoes took the win at the Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington, where they shot a 623 over the course of the weekend.
Senior Coen Pennington was a medalist, sharing second place with Carthage sophomore Nolan Murphy after shooting a 146. Senior Landyn Thoele parred his first three holes, and according to Coach Wilson, helped get the team’s confidence up and go on to show their talent and championship effort.
