Niemerg Appointed to House Special Investigating Committee on the Rep. Ammons Indictment

Dieterich, IL… State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) has been appointed to serve on a special investigative committee convened to look into the federal charges State Rep. Carol Ammons (D-Urbana) is facing. Ammons has been indicted on charges of wire fraud, obtaining cash kickbacks from unlawful payments made from her campaign account, and taking payments from nonprofits (NGOs) that she helped receive state grant funding.

“This is a responsibility I do not take lightly,” Niemerg said. “We must restore ethics, transparency and accountability in government and ensure the members of the General Assembly are leading by example. This bipartisan committee to review the allegations is an important step forward, but we must not stop here. We must pass meaningful ethics reforms to root out the culture of corruption in our state for good.”

In addition to Niemerg, other members of the Committee include Democrat Assistant Majority Leader Curtis J. Tarver II to chair the committee, along with Assistant Majority Leader Jay Hoffman, Rep. Lilian Jimenez. On the Republican side, the Minority Leader Ryan Spain will serve as spokesman and Assistant Minority Leader Dan Ugaste was also appointed to the Committee.
