Niemerg Hosting Event to Discuss Deer Hunting Seasons Impact on Farming

State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) announced today that he will be hosting his first “Coffee & Conversation” event for 2025 on January 22 to address the issue of the length of deer hunting season and the impact on farming operations and damage to crops. Joined by the Jasper County Farm Bureau and the Clark County Farm Bureau, the event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Newton from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and will include special guests from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).

“This has been a growing issue not only in my district but around the state of Illinois,” commented Rep. Niemerg. “The conservation practices of IDNR over the years seems to have worked to strengthen the deer population to a level that a longer hunting season may be the answer to address the high population of deer damaging and eating the crops of our farmers. We need to have a frank conversation about the best solutions for all interested parties including deer hunters and farmers.”

Anyone interested in this subject matter is welcomed to join the conversation and ask questions. RSVPs may be made to the Jasper County Farm Bureau at 618-783-2733 or Rep. Niemerg’s office at 217-813-6036.
