Dieterich, IL… State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) is reminding residents of his district that his annual FREE fishing derby for kids 4 to 15 years old will be this coming Saturday, July 26, 2025. Held again at Sam Parr Lake just outside of Newton on Route 33, registration opens at 9:00 a.m.
“I have had such a positive response to this event that I’m happy to offer this activity again at one of our great fishing locations in the area, Sam Parr Lake,” commented Niemerg. “Kids spend so much time these days on their cell phones, playing video games, and indoors watching television, that this provides a chance to get outside, get some fresh air, and learn about the sport of fishing.”
Niemerg points out that representatives from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will be on hand to help give presentations on water safety and local students from the Newton and Dieterich High School fishing teams have been invited to help show kids on how to bait a hook and reel in a catch.
“IDNR will have a few fishing poles on hand for kids to use if they do not have one and are learning to fish for the first time,” added Niemerg. “This year in addition to raffle prizes, I will be awarding a trophy for the biggest fish caught and for the most fish caught.”
Participants should enter Sam Parr State Fish & Wildlife Area from Route 33 and go to the White Oak Shelter after the second right turn. Follow the fishing derby signs.
Constituents may contact Rep. Niemerg’s District office at (217) 813-6036 or visit RepNiemerg.com for any questions.
